Y

27 04 2018 – 19 05 2018

“For a young artist it is very important to discover his/her place under the sun, and it is nothing new. Each day an incomprehensible avalanche of visual information from TV, the internet and the phone engulfs me. This information does not necessarily bear a direct connection with the real world but they co-exist. Searching for myself in this mayhem, I have decided to start talking to my generation. In my works I am using certain visual symbols or signs in order to start a dialogue, also different motives from the mundane daily life that my generation understands. Combining all that with other constituents I discover sometimes absurd, paradoxical metaphors or situations.

In this exhibition Y is again being used as the sign (the Y Generation, the Y chromosome differentiating a man from a women; more meanings can be discovered looking longer at it) and it shows my most recent paintings. The pictures in the exhibition are fragments of my life. My goal is to toy with the viewer‘s (sub)conscious: using the symbols and indexes known to my generation I incorporate them into a completely different space, situation or context, I change the meaning of the already recognizable sign. All that becomes a comic strip, which characters are us talking in signs, gestures, and different abbreviations. Hence, the misunderstanding arises – as in the broken phone game.”
