Petras Lincevičius

IN THE GREEN WASTELANDS OF THOUGHTS

09 03 2022 – 05 04 2022

In his new exhibition Petras Lincevičius presents his recent work and develops an important relationship between the exhibition space and the works: “I think that the way the artworks are read in the exhibition also depends on the space they are in. The exhibition features the latest works completed in the last two years. Although the personal narrative I develop in my work stems from the environment around me and my personal approach to it, I strive to ensure that these personal experiences of observation do not obscure the viewer’s point of view.

Lately, my creative gaze has shifted to observing the routine and how it intertwines with fragments of virtual information flow, experiences of specific geographic locations.

By turning onto a simple everyday life, I explore a topic that could be defined as the (un) significance of local identity in the global world. I examine this topic by developing a visual derivation that connects different works, based in part on Arvydas Šliogeris’ concept of philotopia. Generally speaking, philotopia is a kind of philosophical thinking that is rooted and arises from a specific natural and imagined environment (in my case – the village of Šilavotas). In this show I pay a lot of attention to reflecting on the color as a repository of information and the personal choice of the color scale.”
